Burgess Trank / Managing Director & Receiver, Central Region
Burgess Trank is a veteran of over 750 successful land acquisition and development projects in 11 states spanning a career of over 30 years. As Managing Director for Paladin’s Central Region, he brings his considerable experience and management capabilities to the service of our clients.
Prior to working with Paladin, Burgess worked with Centex Homes for over 21 years. He served in a variety of capacities, including Regional General Counsel, Vice President of Land Acquisition, and most recently Director of Development and Operations for The Hollows, a resort residential development on Lake Travis, near Austin, Texas. Additionally, Burgess’s Centex experiences included negotiation of contracts for the purchase and sale of real estate; pre-contract and pre-closing due diligence; management and coordination of engineers, land planners and other consultants; coordination and management of land use entitlements, including zoning and comprehensive development agreements; supervision of development, construction, sales and warranty operations and personnel; documentation, establishment and supervision of homeowner and condominium associations; and other areas of land use and development activities.
In 1985, Burgess took on the role as general counsel for a Houston based savings and loan association where he gained first-hand experience with loan originations, administration and work-outs. From 1980-84, Burgess partnered with other US Home veterans in a home building venture based in Houston.
Burgess began his career in real estate in 1976, as Vice President and Counsel for US Home Corp’s Texas Division. There he gained valuable experience in negotiation, due diligence and closing land acquisitions, as well as land development. In addition, he was responsible for the Homeowners Association management subsidiary and became familiar with HOA creation and governance.
His experience includes all legal and operational aspects of acquisition, entitlement, development and disposition of real property and related assets, making him uniquely qualified to provide receivership services stepping in to control and manage distressed assets in the client’s best interest.
Burgess Trank is a graduate of Rice University (BA Economics – 1971) and the University of Houston (JD – 1974). He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and is based in Austin from where he provides services in Texas and states east of the Rockies.
